Short Shake-out Run

Our first run will be a delightful adventure, taking you to the majestic Hollerday Hill, which rises around 240 meters from the enchanting Lynmouth Bay. This short 3-mile run is the perfect way to kick off our weekend, allowing us to stretch our legs, get to know each other and immerse ourselves in the stunning landscapes that will be our playground for the next few days.

As we ascend, we'll be rewarded with the most spectacular panoramic sea views. You'll glimpse the Valley of Rocks, a rugged and dramatic natural wonder. Beyond, the vista reveals a world of possibilities for our upcoming adventures.

Hollerday Hill stands overlooking Lynton, providing a breathtaking backdrop to our journey. Its historical significance is equally captivating, with the remains of an ancient Iron Age hillfort and the site of the historic Hollerday House, an impressive mansion that once graced its summit, awaiting our exploration. Constructed in the 1890s by the philanthropic Sir George Newnes. Sir George passed away in 1910 within its grandeur. Just three years later,  the mansion fell victim to a devastating fire, reducing it to ruins. During the Second World War, the army finally cleared what remained of this stately home.  Glimpses of its once-prominent presence in Lynton can still be spotted during our initial weekend run.

Coastal and River Adventure Run

Our second exhilarating run of the Trail Weekend, a challenging journey that covers just over 14 miles with an elevation gain of around 1100 meters. This run promises to be a true test of your trail-running skills and an unforgettable adventure.

We'll kick off this adventure from the house, heading downhill into town before making our way onto the renowned South West Coast Path. Along the way, we'll be treated to jaw-dropping views of Lynmouth Bay as we traverse the rugged coastline towards Butter Hill. The journey continues to the iconic Foreland Point and the striking Goat Rock. Be prepared for some awe-inspiring vistas of the coastline and the shimmering Bristol Channel.

After this coastal section, our route meanders through enchanting woodlands as we follow the path along the Bristol Channel. The change in scenery will be a refreshing contrast as we immerse ourselves in the tranquillity of the forest.

Upon reaching County Gate, we'll transition to The Coleridge Way, a trail that will take us alongside the breathtaking East Lyn River. The dramatic river gorge and ancient woodlands provide a stunning backdrop to our run, and you might even catch glimpses of local wildlife.

We'll have the opportunity to stop at the Watersmeet tearoom for a well-deserved break. You can refuel with snacks or indulge in refreshing ice cream here.

The crystal-clear waters of the river will also tempt you with opportunities for a wild swim or a paddle under the lush canopy of trees, providing a revitalising experience like no other. An advantage of this route lies in its versatility. Those who prefer a leisurely end to the run can indulge in an extended swim or cream tea before casually finding their way back by following the riverbank to return to town and ascending the hill to reach the house.

As we begin our return journey, don't forget to savour the surroundings and the sense of accomplishment of completing this challenging run.

Finale Run - Exploring the Varied Exmoor Landscape

Our final run is a captivating 12-mile adventure heading westward. This run promises to be a fitting grand finale, taking us through a diverse and captivating landscape that Exmoor is renowned for.

Our journey begins from our house at Lynton and continues towards the awe-inspiring Valley of the Rocks. This dramatic section of coastline, nestled on the northern edge of Exmoor, is a testament to nature's grandeur. Exmoor's varied and exciting landscapes will again be on full display as we explore this remarkable spot.

As we run, you'll inhale the refreshing salty sea air while being treated to spectacular views of the expansive seascape that stretches out before you. The rugged coastline will unfold, providing a breathtaking and inspiring backdrop.

Our route will lead us through a charming woodland area, adding a touch of tranquillity to our adventure. We'll then spend some time on the Tarka Trail, a delightful trail network that takes us to Lee Bay and Woody Bay, offering a chance to immerse ourselves in their beauty. Our journey will extend as far as Highveer Point, where you can relish the sense of accomplishment before we return to Lynton via the Coast Path.

We offer two alternatives for those who prefer a shorter route or a more leisurely pace. Both options commence with a 3-mile run alongside the group before branching off and rejoining the coastal path approximately 1 mile later, leading you to the picturesque Lee Bay with its charming café and beautiful beach. While you unwind and savour the scenery, our group will press on with the run, and you can rejoin us on our return.

Alternatively, if you wish to venture independently, the South West Coast Path is well-marked and easy to follow once you depart from the group. This allows you to self-navigate back to either Lynton or Lynmouth. These options will provide you with a total run of approximately 6 miles.

Monday

  • Self-serve breakfast provided

  • Check out 10am

  • Say your goodbyes to your new friends

Our Monday checkout not only gives us a full day of adventure and fun on Sunday but also gives you a chance to take things leisurely or go for one last self-navigated exploration before your drive home.
